Biodiversity

It is pretty obvious that any web site about sustainability should have a component on biodiversity.
The problem for me is that I don't have a great deal of knowledge on the subject so the strength of this section will very much depend on you the visitor offering substance.
The good news is that in this community there are some who have a great deal of knowledge and I hope they can come forward and offer their support.
On the positive news front, there has been the recent granting of a preservation area on some land near Tarana, which had a leasehold over it for quarrying for railway ballast amongst other things, for maintaining a population of the copper butterfly, which is now the emblem of the Bathurst Regional Council.
A possible negative note is that carbon trading will tend to encourage sharp practioners into planting vast plantations of trees to cash in on this money making opportunity. In fact I see this as a possability for the block owned by me and 5 other partners. The difficulty in my mind is that if those plantations are monocultures and worse monocultures of plants which may not be native to that particular area and or not drought and frost tolerant, then the result may lead to worse consequences than the threat of the problem.
